Bio: We first heard about Bean's beans from carlblikecoffee and were pretty interested in trying them out. Noah was roasting on a Kaffelogic, so the volume was crazy small, and I kept missing his drops. Finally got to try some recently, and I was really impressed by how good the roast was. We reached out about doing an exclusive, but at the time his output was too low for an order. He very recently got a Stronghold and reached back out to start this conversation again. This is their first release on the Stronghold and we are super excited to have it as an exclusive!

Roast profile: Ultralight. Proper wheatgrass

Rest recommendation: 60 days+

Description: Alo coffee needs no introduction at this point, they are renowned for producing some of the highest quality and competition winning Ethiopian coffees. Alo coffee is operated by Mr. Tamiru Tadesse and his wife Messi who have won the Ethiopian cup of excellence competition with coffee from their home village of Alo in Bensa, Ethiopia.

This coffee comes from the largest washing station Alo operates - the Gute washing station located in Bona Zuria, Ethiopia. This lot was red honey processed, something not seen in Ethiopia until recent years. The processing on this coffee is strikingly clean for a red honey and we are excited to offer it as one of our first coffees roasted on our Stronghold roaster.

Impressions: In the aroma we immediately get a huge amount of yellow stone fruit, reminding us of Georgia Fuzzy peaches (yellow peaches), apricot, and mango. Underneath the stone fruit aroma, there is a syrupy and tart tropical sweetness like tamarind followed by clean honeyed osmanthus oolong tea, and purple florals like violet and lilac. The palate mimics the aroma upfront with yellow stonefruit, followed by a tartaric and candied tamarind + green grape acidic twang. The palate finishes true to the aroma with osmanthus oolong tea and purple florals.

Tasting Notes: Georgia Fuzzy, Tamarind, Osmanthus Oolong

What is a weekly release?

It’s a one off feature with a specific roaster. Weekly releases are separate from the subscription. This way you can try coffee from us without subscribing! We also offer some high end and ultra rare lots through this that we wouldn’t be able to feature on our subscriptions.

Do I need to subscribe to purchase the weekly release?

Nope! Weekly releases can be purchased as standalone coffees, no subscription required.

When will my weekly release order ship?

Shipping timelines vary by roaster and international transit. We send weekly email updates so you always know where your coffee is in the process. Make sure to sign up for our newsletter.

What does “presale” mean?

Our weekly releases are sold before the coffee arrives in the U.S. This allows us to source rare international roasters that don’t normally export here. They are roasted to order and we provide an ETA for each release through our newsletter.
